Birsa Munda Airport (IATA: IXRICAO: VERC) is a public domestic airport serving the city of Ranchi, Jharkhand, India and is managed by the Airports Authority of India. It is located in Hinoo locality, approximately 7 km (4.3 mi) from the centre of the city. BMA used to be a small airport in terms of service, however with the growth of air traffic in India, BMA has also witnessed unprecedented growth in the last 2 years and several budget airlines have added it to their route. As per the records of AAI (Apr 2010 - Mar 2011), more than 450,000 passengers use the airport annually making it one of the fastest growing small airports in the country (Current figures point at an annual figure of a close to 1 million passengers). Currently a new larger, Integrtated Terminal with facilities for Customs & Immigration, Duty Free Shops, Travel Desks, Lounges etc. is under construction and will be commisioned by early 2012. It is envisaged, that with the commissioning of this new Integrated Terminal, international connections may be added with the addition of more domestic services.
